Renowned comic artist Alex Ross, known for his work on "Marvels" and "Kingdom Come," has released a new original graphic novel titled "Marvel Dimensions" from Abrams ComicArts. This hardcover publication delves into the Marvel Universe, presenting iconic heroes in unexpected ways and featuring a unique "comic-within-a-comic" element.
The book, which is 112 pages and written and illustrated by Ross, is a collaboration between Abrams ComicArts and Marvel Comics. "Marvel Dimensions" begins with painted double-page spreads depicting the origin stories of numerous Marvel characters, including the Human Torch, Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Black Panther, Phoenix, Wolverine, Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, and the Avengers. These spreads are designed to evoke the characters' earliest appearances while offering a fresh perspective.
A central feature of "Marvel Dimensions" is "The In-Verse," a 32-page comic that is integrated into the binding of the hardcover. According to the publisher, this element is designed to increase anticipation and draw readers deeper into a widening mystery. Ross stated that the "sense of mystery, suspense, and surprise" was a key goal for the project, with extensive planning put into both the story and the book's design to create a unique reader experience.
"Marvel Dimensions" is available now with a price of $29.99. Previous works by Ross include "Fantastic Four: Full Circle" from 2022.
