Disney has offered a first glimpse of an attraction slated for its upcoming Avatar-themed area at Disney California Adventure, revealing a boat ride through a new rockwork model at the D23 fan event in Anaheim.
The model showcases a ride system designed for significant capacity, with individual boats appearing to accommodate at least 30 guests. For comparison, the boats in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction typically seat between 22 and 24 people. The planned attraction is situated in the northeast corner of the park, an area currently occupied by Hollywood Land, and will run adjacent to the Disneyland Monorail.
While the model bears a resemblance to the Na'vi River Journey at Disney's Animal Kingdom, the ride vehicles differ notably. The boats at the Florida park's attraction are designed to hold only six to eight guests. Speculation among theme park enthusiasts suggests the California attraction might utilize a ride system similar to the Shanghai Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean, which offers more dynamic movement than traditional versions of the ride.
Further details regarding the attraction are anticipated to be shared during the Disney Experiences panel at D23 this weekend. Beyond theme park news, the D23 Expo also includes a dedicated panel for Kingdom Hearts, with expectations for updates on Kingdom Hearts 4, given Disney's classification of Square Enix's RPG series as a billion-dollar franchise.
