Machete star Danny Trejo is venturing into the world of comic books with "Year of the Devil," a new series co-created by the actor himself. Trejo will be present at San Diego Comic-Con to promote the project, which features his likeness as an immortal warrior tasked with battling the Devil across centuries.
"Year of the Devil" is described as a prestige five-issue graphic novel that blends Aztec mythology, biblical prophecy, supernatural horror, and action. In the series, Trejo's character, Diego, is cursed to fight against the Devil and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in a quest to save a loved one and prevent humanity's extinction. Trejo stated that the series is about redemption, describing it as "brutal, emotional, and unlike anything I’ve ever been part of," adding that beneath the violence lies a story of "love, sacrifice, and second chances."
The comic is co-created by Trejo, transmedia creator Keith Arem (known for "Call of Duty"), and writer Chris Yates ("Marcus Walker: Kingslayer Protocol"). The interior art is handled by Frank Mazzoli ("Dune," "Rebel Moon: Nemesis"), with cover art contributions from a notable list of artists including Vanesa R. Del Rey, Carlo Barberi, Raymond Gay, Jonathan Uribe, J. Gonzo, Jaime Carrillo, Willi Roberts, Eskivo, and Kevin Keane.
Fans can learn more about "Year of the Devil" at the "Danny Trejo's Year of the Devil" panel at SDCC on Saturday, July 25, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM in Room 6DE. Trejo, Arem, and Yates are expected to attend, alongside BackerKit's Dave Alvarez-Villalpando, with Ryan J. Downey moderating. Additionally, Trejo will participate in a fan signing event at the PCB Productions Booth (#4039) on the same day, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM.
Following its debut at Comic-Con, "Year of the Devil" will launch a crowdfunding campaign on September 29. San Diego Comic-Con is scheduled to take place from July 22 to July 26.
