Abrams ComicArts is continuing its line of Dune graphic novels with the first of two adaptations of Frank Herbert's 1969 novel, Dune Messiah. This release coincides with the upcoming theatrical debut of Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three. Dune Messiah: Book 1 is adapted by Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert, with art by Michael Shelfer and a cover by Bill Sienkiewicz. The graphic novel continues the saga of Paul Atreides, who is now Emperor but finds himself a target of conspiracy. The official summary highlights that Paul must confront political enemies and shifting prophetic visions as his reign and the fate of his loved ones hang in the balance. It aims to offer a unique view of the story's "darker second act." "Dune Messiah, Frank Herbert’s sequel to Dune, was a surprise to readers in its tone and message and how the great hero Paul Atreides falls to corruption and treachery,” stated Anderson. "In interpreting this story in a faithful, scene-by-scene graphic novel, we focused on the scope of the vast landscapes, the color of the culture, and the characters struggling with forces beyond their control. Michael Shelfer’s art makes the story expansive and a delight for the reader’s eye." Dune Messiah: Book 1 is available now, with Book 2 scheduled for release in 2027. Dune: Part Three is set to premiere on December 18, 2026. It is noted that the film may diverge from the plot of Dune Messiah more than anticipated.
