Marvel Comics is set to release "Alien vs. X-Men" this September, a new limited series that pits the iconic mutant team against the universe's most formidable predatory species. Following the success of "Alien Vs. Avengers," this crossover promises a grimly delightful battle, with a new preview offering a glimpse into the escalating danger.

The series is helmed by veteran X-Men writer Kieron Gillen and illustrated by Geraldo Borges. "Alien vs. X-Men" will also feature a four-part bonus story by Chris Claremont, which pits the Xenomorphs against Marvel's own alien hive-minded species, the Brood. The main narrative sees the X-Men embarking on a quest for a Phoenix egg, only to inadvertently bring back something far more dangerous to Earth.

Preview pages depict the X-Men's initial encounter with Xenomorphs in their egg stage. Images show Wolverine and Jamie Madrox, also known as Multiple Man, restrained by alien growth before Madrox is attacked by a facehugger. The roster, featuring Kitty Pryde, Beast, Emma Frost, Wolverine, and Cyclops, along with their distinctive costumes, suggests the series is set during the era of Joss Whedon's "Astonishing X-Men."

Gillen explained to Collider that the extraterrestrial themes prevalent during that X-Men era provide a natural fit for an "Alien" crossover. The nature of such crossover events allows for creative freedom, enabling Gillen to lean into the horror elements of the "Alien" franchise and potentially eliminate fan-favorite mutants. "Heroes can still be heroes and act like themselves," Gillen stated, "but they're in a story where their luck often runs out."

Despite not appearing in promotional materials, Gillen highlighted Storm as a pivotal character in "Alien vs. X-Men," likening her role to that of Ripley from the "Alien" films and suggesting she might serve as the protagonist and potential survivor. The creative team reportedly devised a solution to incorporate Storm's significant power level in a way that feels justified within the narrative.

Fans can experience this crossover when "Alien vs. X-Men" #1 launches on September 16.
