Polygon has launched 'Happily Never After: A Week of Adult Fairy Tales,' a special series exploring dark fairy tales for mature audiences. The initiative is inspired by Telltale Games' upcoming release, The Wolf Among Us Remastered, which is set to launch on October 29.
The series delves into the darker corners of the human psyche, revisiting classic fairy tales and folklores that have been reimagined by modern storytellers across various media, including movies, television, and video games. These retellings often twist familiar narratives, giving characters more sinister forms and ensuring that 'happily ever after' is not always guaranteed.
Polygon encourages readers to check back throughout the week for new stories and to remember that not every tale concludes happily. The publication notes that while many recall fairy tales from childhood, these stories have long been a source of inspiration for artists exploring more complex themes.
