Robin Williams' children, Zak, Zelda, and Cody Williams, have reactivated their father's dormant Instagram account, marking a significant move to counteract the escalating misuse of his voice and likeness through artificial intelligence. The account, inactive since the beloved actor's death in 2014, will now serve as a platform to share authentic content and memories, ensuring his legacy is presented with the warmth and integrity he embodied.
In a joint statement shared on the revived account, the siblings acknowledged the ongoing discovery of their father's work by new generations and the continued celebration by longtime fans. They expressed their commitment to maintaining the platform as a secure space where "stories, photos, videos, and memories shared reflect his legacy with authenticity, warmth, and care." The Williams siblings stated their aim to share his unique talent and humor, preserving the essence of his extraordinary life and career.
Zelda Williams elaborated on the decision in a personal Instagram story, recognizing that the account's reactivation might be unexpected. She explained that transforming the space into a repository for genuine clips and photos of her father is a direct response to the "rampant AI abuse of his voice and likeness" proliferating on social media. She has previously voiced her strong opposition to AI-generated content featuring her father, imploring fans in October 2025 to cease sending such material and to stop believing she would find any value in it. Williams described these AI recreations as potentially monstrous, a "Frankensteinian monster" that misrepresents what the industry should stand for.
However, not all figures connected to Williams share the same sentiment. Matthew Lawrence, who played Williams' son in the film Mrs. Doubtfire, expressed a desire to utilize AI to recreate the iconic actor's voice for special projects, provided it is done with the family's consent. Lawrence told Deadline in July 2025 that he believes such a use could be "really special."
