The Folio Society has announced a new, deluxe hardcover edition of Liu Cixin's acclaimed science fiction epic, "The Three-Body Problem" trilogy, subtitled "Remembrance of Earth's Past." This collector's item aims to provide the definitive physical version of the modern sci-fi classic, which has recently seen renewed attention through a Netflix adaptation.

The "Remembrance of Earth's Past" edition encompasses all three novels: "The Three-Body Problem," "The Dark Forest," and "Death's End." The publication boasts original artwork and design by Matt Griffin, an award-winning illustrator, and includes a previously unpublished introduction by the author, Liu Cixin, specifically for this English-language release.

According to The Folio Society, the 1,344-page limited edition is housed in a specially designed slipcase. Inside, readers will find intricate design elements including a unique box lining, a frontispiece, and cover art, all crafted by Griffin. The volume features three black and white integrated title-page spreads, one for each book, alongside 15 color illustrations, three of which are double-page spreads. The binding is done in printed cloth with lettering by Steve O Connell, and the endpapers are printed on Sirio Color Dark Blue paper. Additional features include a ribbon marker, printed book edges, and a clamshell case covered in holographic blocked cloth with a copper holographic blocked paper lining. Notably, this lining incorporates real three-body simulations generated by Matt Griffin using specialized software from MIT, for which he received express permission.

Folio Society Editor James Rose described the trilogy as a masterpiece spanning from the Chinese Cultural Revolution to 18 million years in the future, characterizing it as a profound exploration of humanity's struggle for existence and the question of extraterrestrial life. Rose stated that Griffin's artwork brilliantly captures the scope of the narrative, making this edition the ultimate presentation of a science-fiction phenomenon for fans and newcomers alike.

The Folio Society's "The Three-Body Problem Trilogy: Remembrance of Earth's Past" is available for preorder starting September 8 from The Folio Society website. The edition is priced at £550 (approximately $780 USD).

IGN's review of the Netflix series "3 Body Problem" noted that while the adaptation successfully reworks Liu Cixin's dense novels for a broader audience, its fast-paced plot and far-out science fiction elements might challenge some viewers. The review also pointed out that while certain sequences, like a video game interlude, contained moments of awkwardness, the performances and a significant shocking sequence made for a worthy adaptation of the celebrated franchise.
