Dynamite Entertainment will publish a new X-Files comic series this winter, featuring previously unseen cases for Agents Mulder and Scully. The new series is penned by Joe Harris, who previously wrote The X-Files: Season 10 and Season 11 for IDW Publishing, which served as a continuation of the classic TV series. Riley Brown is attached as the illustrator for the new book.
Unlike Harris' previous work on the franchise's comics, this new series is slated to take place during the original show's run, exploring untold stories from that era. Further plot details are expected to be released in the coming months. Harris expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that "The X-Files has always been sacred to me" and that he is "beyond honored to write them and I am absolutely over the moon to work with Dynamite on this new series."
The X-Files comic joins other Disney-owned properties, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel, Gargoyles, and Darkwing Duck, that have found a home at Dynamite. This comic launch follows the recent release of The X-Files: I Want to Believe - Vrach Frankensteyn and a LEGO X-Files set.
Separately, a new X-Files reboot series, executive produced by Ryan Coogler, is in development with a pilot order from Hulu. That project is set to star Danielle Deadwyler and Himeh Patel, with the potential involvement of original stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, X-Files creator Chris Carter has expressed interest in continuing his narrative and resolving the cliffhanger from Season 11.
