Cherry's KC 200 MX mechanical keyboard is currently available for £57 on Amazon, marking a 26 percent discount from its usual £80 RRP. This deal, coinciding with Prime Day, offers a notable saving on a full-size keyboard featuring the company's latest MX2A switches.
The new MX2A switches represent an update to Cherry's long-standing MX switch design. Key improvements include integrated lubrication for a smoother typing experience, a ribbed stem to reduce key wobble, and diamond polishing for a more refined surface. The KC 200 MX can be configured with various MX2A switch types. The Silent Red variant is priced slightly higher at £63, but still represents good value for an enthusiast-grade component.
Other available switch types include the MX2A Browns, which offer a pleasant weight and a subtle tactile bump mid-press, making them suitable for extended typing sessions. Both switch variants are noted to feel smoother and more responsive than their predecessors, benefiting from sound-dampening features and pre-lubricated stabilizers.
The keyboard's design features a bronze-colored anodized metal top plate and flip-out feet for adjustable typing angles. It includes dedicated volume keys and indicator lights for Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock. The spacebar also incorporates a gentle curve for improved comfort.
For gaming, the KC 200 MX supports full N-key rollover, ensuring all keystrokes are registered simultaneously, which is advantageous for rhythm games or cooperative play. Its smooth-action switches are also well-suited for long gaming sessions, as demonstrated during extensive play in titles like Starfield.
However, the keyboard lacks backlighting, which may be a drawback for users who operate in low-light conditions. Additionally, it utilizes ABS keycaps, which may show wear over time, unlike more durable PBT keycaps. Despite these compromises, the current £57 price point makes the KC 200 MX a compelling option for those seeking a well-built mechanical keyboard with advanced switch technology at an accessible price.
