Magic: The Gathering's Commander format, a highly popular 100-card singleton variant, thrives on players building around legendary creatures. Wizards of the Coast regularly supports this format with preconstructed decks, and one such offering, the Blight Curse Commander Deck, has recently dropped to its lowest price since its launch this year. The deck is currently available at Amazon for $36.99, a 26% discount from its original $49.99 price.
The Blight Curse deck, part of the Lorwyn Eclipsed set, is a Jund (black, red, and green) strategy that brings valuable reprints, including Chimil, the Inner Sun, and Tree of Perdition. The deck also features an infinite combo through the synergy of Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons and Blowfly Infestation. Its core mechanic revolves around 'blighting,' which involves applying -1/-1 counters to opponents' creatures.
The deck's commanders offer distinct playstyles. Auntie Ool, Cursewretch, a 4/4 with a Ward cost of Blight 2, allows players to draw cards when they apply -1/-1 counters to their own creatures or drain opponents' life when applied to theirs. Alternatively, The Reaper, King No More, a 3/3, enters the battlefield and places a -1/-1 counter on two creatures. Once per turn, if creatures with these counters die, it can be claimed for the player's side, allowing them to utilize their opponent's defeated threats.
