Steam launched its Autumn Sale last week, and the PC-inclined know these seasonal sales are typically the best time of year to buy games. However, sometimes the gaming giant doesn't offer the best possible price. Bungie’s live-action release, Marathon, is currently priced at $23.99 on Steam. Meanwhile, digital storefronts like Fanatical and GMG are also running fall sales, with Fanatical offering Marathon Steam codes for an even lower price of $19.99.
Price trackers indicate that this is the lowest price Marathon has ever been on the U.S. Steam store. Regardless of individual feelings about the hardcore extraction shooter, this represents a significant discount.
Marathon on PC Drops Under $20 at Fanatical
Fanatical, a UK-based e-commerce platform, is a reliable source for digital game deals. The codes offered are for Steam, not a separate third-party launcher. Marathon has had a complex development cycle, with early trailers generating buzz, but a troubled alpha test and plagiarism allegations leading to delays. During this period, other games like Arc Raiders also entered the multiplayer shooter market. Marathon eventually launched in March, after reworking some assets.
While Marathon has faced challenges in building a large player base, it has cultivated a dedicated following. This dedication is attributed to the shooter's focus on hardcore gameplay and community. Bungie has outlined plans to increase accessibility with future updates, including a PVE mode.
The game features challenging gameplay, with a steep learning curve that many find addictive, especially when combined with its loot and progression systems. It offers Bungie's signature gunplay in a stylized world. IGN's Travis Northup described Marathon in his 9/10 review as "unapproachable, unforgiving, offputtingly creepy, and has a playerbase of violent goblins who exist solely to bash your face in with a brick, and for all of these reasons it's become my favorite extraction shooter of all time."
Current Deal Season
This period presents numerous gaming deals across various platforms. In addition to Steam, Fanatical, and GMG, Amazon is hosting a Prime Day sale, prompting competing sales from Best Buy and Walmart. It is advisable to check multiple retailers for discounts on desired titles.
