Walmart is offering the official PlayStation 5 Disc Drive for $79, with an additional $10 discount available via a hidden coupon code, bringing the price down to $69. The drive is compatible with the PS5 Slim Digital Edition console and requires an internet connection for initial setup.
Expanding PS5 Digital Edition Functionality
The disc drive allows users to play both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 games on physical disc media. However, it is important to note that starting in January 2028, newly released PlayStation games will be exclusively digital. The drive also enables the PS5 Digital Edition to function as a 4K Blu-ray player, a feature that can be particularly appealing given the declining availability and increasing cost of dedicated 4K Blu-ray players. The discounted drive presents a more budget-friendly alternative compared to standalone players, which can retail for significantly higher prices.
Coupon Code Details
The coupon code, "SAVE3X," is reportedly working for many customers, though its official terms state it is for new customers and limited to three online pickup or delivery orders with a minimum purchase of $35. The console's disc drive attaches directly to the PS5 Slim console without the need for tools, replacing the standard cover.
