SteelSeries is offering a 20% discount on its new Aeon Pro wireless gaming controller for PC and Xbox. The controller, typically priced at $209.99, can be acquired for less by using the coupon code "SSPOUT20" at the Steelseries store. This pro-grade controller boasts a range of features, positioning it as a potentially top-tier option in the market.
The Aeon Pro introduces an infinite battery system, similar to that found in SteelSeries' Arctis Nova Pro and Omni headsets. This system involves two rechargeable batteries; one is used in the controller while the second remains charged in the included docking station, allowing for continuous wireless play without downtime. The docking station also serves as the controller's primary charger.
A key innovation highlighted is the patented QuickSwitch system, enabling seamless transitions between Xbox, PC, and mobile devices. The controller connects wirelessly to the docking station, which in turn is connected to the Xbox and PC via USB Type-C. Mobile connections are handled via Bluetooth. This feature allows for instant switching without re-pairing or replugging devices.
Internally, the Aeon Pro utilizes Hall Effect joysticks, which employ magnetic sensors. These are noted for greater precision and sensitivity compared to traditional analog sensors, and their lack of moving parts contributes to resistance against stick drift. Additionally, the controller features mechanical switches for its 16 programmable buttons, including the D-pad, XYAB buttons, trigger buttons, and rear paddle switches. Two of the trigger buttons also offer adjustable travel length, with options for full travel or a hair trigger.
Further customization is available through modular thumbsticks. The Aeon Pro package includes four interchangeable styles: convex, concave, standard length, and long, which snap into place on the joysticks. Button customization can be managed either through the controller's integrated OLED display or the Steelseries GG application. The inclusion of Hall Effect joysticks and mechanical switches across most buttons is a commonality among highly regarded gaming controllers.
While the Aeon Pro represents a significant investment, its extensive feature set and durable components are presented as valuable for dedicated gamers who accumulate hundreds of hours of playtime with their controllers.
