Walmart is currently offering the SanDisk GamePlay microSD Express Card with 512GB of storage for $98, marking a substantial reduction from its typical $150 price. This accessory is presented as a key upgrade for the Nintendo Switch 2, particularly for players who intend to build a large digital game library.
The internal 256GB storage of the Nintendo Switch 2 can be quickly consumed by modern AAA titles. Games like Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade require nearly 100GB, Split Fiction around 70GB, Cyberpunk 2077 approximately 60GB, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity about 44GB. A 512GB card provides the capacity to download multiple large titles without constant management.
It is important to note that the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusively supports microSD Express cards for expanded storage. This is due to the increased read and write speeds necessary to accommodate the performance demands of the console's games. Standard microSD cards from the original Switch can still be used for storing screenshots and videos, but they will not be compatible with Switch 2 software.
Beyond the memory card deal, Nintendo has announced that the console's price will increase in September. This suggests that current pricing represents a limited-time opportunity. Additionally, a Grade A refurbished Nintendo Switch 2 is available for $399.99 on Woot, a platform owned by Amazon. These refurbished units have been tested and restored to a like-new condition, come with a 90-day limited warranty, and may only exhibit minor cosmetic wear, shipping in a plain replacement box.
Despite the cooling of its launch frenzy, demand for the Switch 2 remains robust. Nintendo reported selling 3.82 million units in the quarter ending June 30. While this is a decrease from the initial launch quarter, the company states that the Switch 2 continues to outperform the original Switch at equivalent lifecycle stages, establishing it as Nintendo's fastest-selling console to date.
