For a limited time, Woot!, an Amazon-owned retailer, is offering the officially licensed 1TB WD Black SN850P PlayStation 5 solid state drive (SSD) for $179.99. This price requires applying the 10% off coupon code "APPLETEN" at checkout. Amazon Prime members will receive free shipping, while non-Prime members will incur an additional $5 delivery fee. This offer applies to a brand new item that comes with the original 5-year WD warranty.
The WD SN850P is designed specifically for the PS5, meeting Sony's requirements such as a minimum read speed of 5,500MB/s and a PCIe Gen4x4 interface. It features a slim heatsink that fits within the PS5's storage bay. While it carries an official PlayStation license, this branding is not visible once installed.
Beyond its PS5 compatibility, the SN850P also functions as a high-performance drive for gaming PCs. It boasts transfer speeds of up to 7,300MB/s read and 6,600MB/s write, positioning it among the faster PCIe Gen4 SSDs. The drive includes a dedicated LPDDR4 DRAM cache, a feature that may offer a noticeable advantage for PC users compared to many DRAM-less SSDs in a similar price bracket that rely on system memory via HMB (Host Memory Buffer).
The integrated heatsink eliminates the need for a separate purchase and installation, simplifying the upgrade process for both PS5 and PC users. While other SSDs are available at comparable prices, many are from lesser-known brands.
