This weekend brings a variety of new shows to streaming services, including Netflix's adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic novel "East of Eden," HBO's new legal anthology drama "War," and a new season of the anime hit "Ranma ½" on Netflix.
East of Eden
Available on Netflix, "East of Eden" is an eight-episode drama adapted by Zoe Kazan from John Steinbeck's epic novel. The series focuses on Cathy Ames, portrayed by Florence Pugh, and recreates the myth of Cain and Abel across generations of the Hamilton and Trask families. Kazan, who also penned scripts for "Wildlife" and "Ruby Sparks," described her approach to TUDUM as inspired by Steinbeck's own view of the novel as "the story of my country and the story of me."
War
Launching on HBO Max, "War" is an eight-episode legal drama developed by George Kay, known for his work on "Killing Eve" and "Lupin." The series stars Dominic West and Sienna Miller as a tech billionaire and his actress wife, whose contentious divorce serves as the focus of the first season. The show has already been renewed for a second season, with each installment planned to feature a new legal case pitting prestigious London firms against each other.
Get Jiro!
"Get Jiro!," an adaptation of Anthony Bourdain's graphic novel, premieres on Toonami and HBO Max. The animated series follows Jiro, a chef in a futuristic Los Angeles where rival gourmet factions battle for control. A Polygon review described the show as a blend of "John Wick" and "Delicious in Dungeon," noting that the series expanded upon Bourdain's original world with new characters and humor.
Ranma ½
The popular 90s anime "Ranma ½" returns with its third season on Netflix. The series centers on Ranma Saotome, a martial artist who transforms into a girl when exposed to cold water and back into a boy with warm water. The new season continues Ranma's story as he navigates his unique condition and his engagement to Akane Tendo.
Coven Academy
Disney+'s new sci-fi series "Coven Academy" follows three young witches attending an elite boarding school. Created by Tim Federle, the show draws inspiration from 90s teen dramas like "Dawson's Creek" and "Charmed," blending magic with teenage romance and supernatural challenges.
Marshals
"Marshals" returns for its second season on Paramount Plus, continuing the story of Kacey Dutton (Luke Grimes) as he joins an elite team of U.S. Marshals in Montana. The season kicks off with Dutton on the trail of his kidnapped son.
Kill Jackie
Based on the novel "The Price You Pay," "Kill Jackie" is an eight-episode crime drama available on AMC Plus. Catherine Zeta-Jones stars as Jackie Price, an art dealer whose past as a drug dealer resurfaces, threatening her carefully constructed life.
Tip Toe
Starz presents "Tip Toe," a five-episode drama starring Alan Cumming as Leo Struthers, an HIV-positive gay bartender who is found dead at the beginning of the series. The narrative unfolds by flashing back 10 days to explore the events leading up to his death.
