Alex Garland's Elden Ring Movie Reportedly Boasts $200 Million Budget

Alex Garland's upcoming live-action adaptation of FromSoftware and George R.R. Martin's acclaimed RPG, Elden Ring, is reportedly being produced with a budget nearing $200 million. This figure would make it A24's most expensive film to date, far surpassing its previous highest-budget productions.

A report from The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, revealed the substantial budget. This investment aligns Elden Ring with the production costs of major Hollywood blockbusters, such as Marvel's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which reportedly cost $200 million, and Jurassic World Rebirth at $180 million.

This marks a significant departure from A24's typical approach, which has historically focused on delivering critically praised films with more modest budgets. For comparison, the Timothée Chalamet-led drama Marty Supreme, previously A24's most expensive film, had a budget of $70 million. Garland's own Civil War was produced for approximately $50 million, and Dwayne Johnson's The Smashing Machine is reported to have a similar budget.

Details regarding the film's specific content and why it commands such a high budget remain scarce ahead of its planned March 3, 2028 premiere. However, the production has secured a notable cast including Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Nick Offerman, and Havana Rose Liu. Early set photos have also surfaced online, hinting at faithful recreations of iconic locations from the game.

Initial reports had pegged the Elden Ring movie's budget at just over $100 million, suggesting a significant increase during production or that early estimates were lower than the final figure. Filming concluded in July of this year.
