Amazon's live-action adaptation of "God of War" has reportedly been forced to recast the role of Kratos due to a serious injury sustained by actor Ryan Hurst. Hurst, who had reportedly gained 40 pounds of muscle for the part, tore his bicep during a stunt in late June. The incident has led to a pause in production, which remains on hiatus.
According to Deadline, Hurst has undergone surgery and is in recovery, but his projected four-to-six-month healing period and inability to continue the necessary strength training have prompted Amazon to seek a new actor for the titular role. The production is expected to resume in October, with preparations beginning in August following the recasting.
Prior to Hurst's injury, four episodes of the series had already been filmed. The "God of War" series has received a two-season order, with plans to shoot both seasons back-to-back. The current plan remains unchanged despite the setback.
The cast also includes Callum Vinson as Atreus, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn as Brok, and Jeff Gulka as Sindri.
