Embark Studios is collaborating with Chernin Entertainment to develop film and television adaptations of its video game properties, Arc Raiders and The Finals. The agreement aims to transform the popular shooters into what Embark CEO Patrick Söderlund described as "deeply integrated transmedia experiences."
Chernin Entertainment, which recently produced the horror film adaptation of The Backrooms, reportedly outbid several other production companies for the rights to adapt Embark's games. David Ready, Chernin's film president, stated that Arc Raiders and The Finals offer "visually stunning, atmospheric worlds that contain countless stories to tell."
While details regarding directors, writers, and cast members for these upcoming projects have not yet been released, the collaboration signals Embark's intent to broaden the reach of its franchises beyond gaming. This move aligns with a growing trend of video game properties being adapted for screen, with other recent examples including Sega and Netflix's planned projects based on Sonic The Hedgehog and Crazy Taxi.
Arc Raiders, an extraction shooter, has achieved significant commercial success, selling over 16 million copies since its release. The game is currently promoting a free trial from October 8th to 12th and its largest update to date, Frozen Trails. A player-versus-environment test is also scheduled for October 13th.
