Games Workshop has unveiled a new trailer for Astartes II, the eagerly awaited continuation of the acclaimed Warhammer 40,000 fan animation. The trailer confirms the appearance of Deathwatch and Terminator units, while also strongly suggesting inspiration from the classic tabletop game, Space Hulk.
The original Astartes, created by Syama Pedersen, gained widespread recognition for its quality, leading to Pedersen being brought on board for the official sequel. The animation's visual style and tone significantly influenced Saber Interactive's game, Space Marine 2. The new trailer showcases Space Marines moving through dark, atmospheric interiors, with a particular first-person shot of a spotlight-lit corridor evoking the claustrophobic feel of Space Hulk.
Games Workshop has also stated that Astartes II will be considerably longer than its predecessor. The new footage features imposing Terminator armor, the crackle of power fists, and what appears to be at least three distinct Space Marine characters and Chapters, including the Inquisition-led Deathwatch.
Previous teases, including one from last year, had hinted at the scale of the animation with glimpses of melee combat, vehicle action, and even spaceship battles across varied environments, featuring multiple enemy factions. However, it was later clarified that these were not direct clips from the Astartes II animation itself, but rather a compilation of shots representing the 'former lives' of the characters. The trailer concluded with a subtle hint regarding the narrative's direction.
Astartes II is scheduled for release in December on Warhammer+, Games Workshop's dedicated streaming service.
