Paramount Pictures is giving fans a limited opportunity to experience Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender on the big screen. The animated film, a sequel to the original Nickelodeon series focusing on the adult protagonists, will have a brief theatrical run in Los Angeles and New York City.
This limited engagement is set to coincide with the film's Paramount+ streaming release later this month. Showings are scheduled to occur three times daily from July 24th to July 30th at the AMC Burbank 8 in Los Angeles and the AMC Empire 25 in Manhattan. The film will also be screened at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24th.
While a full theatrical rollout was initially anticipated in 2021, Paramount later shifted the film to a direct-to-streaming release. This limited theatrical window is intended to make the film eligible for awards consideration, potentially allowing Paramount to submit it for Best Animated Feature Film at the upcoming Academy Awards.
The film's release has already seen adjustments; it was originally slated for October 2026. However, the entire movie reportedly leaked earlier this year, prompting Paramount to move the release date forward.
