The re-release secured the top spot on global box office charts, earning $26 million domestically and $60 million internationally.
The Encore version included several minutes of extra footage, notably scenes that connect to the upcoming superhero crossover film, Avengers: Doomsday. Directors had previously described these new clips as critical to the plot of the subsequent movie, incentivizing dedicated fans to return.
Despite debates over whether the added content justified a new ticket purchase, the strong box office performance suggests many viewers found it worthwhile. The majority of the film retained its original narrative, allowing audiences to revisit key moments from the Infinity Saga's conclusion. This re-release brings Avengers: Endgame's worldwide total to an impressive $2.885 billion, making it the second-highest debut for a re-release, behind only Titanic 3D in 2012.
In other box office news, Zach Cregger's Resident Evil continued its successful run, earning an additional $23 million domestically and $27 million internationally for a two-weekend total of $196.5 million against a $75 million budget. The film has also been recognized as the highest-rated video game adaptation to date.
The survival film Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt, garnered $50.1 million globally, while Primetime, a biopic centered on Chris Hansen's "To Catch a Predator," brought in $20.06 million worldwide, with $19.2 million from its domestic run. The top five global films for the weekend included Avengers: Endgame Encore, Resident Evil, Heart of the Beast, Primetime, and Forgotten Island.
