Prime Video has released a new trailer for Blade Runner 2099, offering a closer look at the series' central mystery and the dynamic between characters Cora and Olwen. The trailer debuted during the show's panel at New York Comic Con.
Unraveling the Replicant Mystery
The trailer centers on the disappearance of 38 replicants over the past year, a mystery that brings together Cora, a fugitive, and Olwen, a replicant nearing the end of her lifespan. Their investigation is set to uncover a conspiracy involving a criminal group of replicants who reject the need to behave humanely.
Showrunner Silka Luisa previously described the series to Polygon as "Chinatown set in the world of Blade Runner," emphasizing its focus on investigation. The new trailer suggests that Blade Runner 2099 will continue the franchise's tradition of thoughtful science fiction thrillers, exploring themes of AI, humanity, and intimacy.
A new poster for the series also accompanied the trailer, featuring the tagline "Welcome to a future we no longer control." This hints at the series' setting in 2099, where Los Angeles is primarily controlled by replicants, a scenario further explored in the new trailer.
All eight episodes of Blade Runner 2099 are scheduled for release on Prime Video on November 25. Luisa has stated that these episodes form a complete story, leaving the possibility of a second season uncertain. For those wishing to catch up on the franchise, Blade Runner: The Final Cut and Blade Runner 2049 are currently available on Prime Video.
