Brendan Fraser has been pictured as Rick O'Connell on the set of the upcoming film, The Mummy 4, marking his return to the iconic role. These images follow shortly after set photos revealed Rachel Weisz reprising her character, Evelyn O'Connell.
Page Six published photographs of Fraser, 57, filming on location at a former military base in Suffolk, England. The actor is seen wearing a black leather jacket and pants, and a helmet while driving a distinctive silver-and-red rocket car. The publication reports that Fraser was filmed during a scene involving record-speed trials.
These new images, along with the previously released photos of Weisz, suggest that at least some of the film will be set in post-war Britain during the 1950s. Weisz's character, Evelyn O'Connell, was spotted filming scenes outside the British Museum. The timeline would align with the franchise's established chronology, which saw The Mummy set in 1926, The Mummy Returns in 1933, and Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 1946.
Weisz's involvement in The Mummy 4 comes nearly 20 years after the previous installment, 2008's Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Notably, Weisz did not appear in that film, with Maria Bello taking on the role of Evelyn O'Connell. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett indicated earlier this year that Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is not considered canon for the new film.
Fraser himself has previously spoken about the challenges of filming action sequences, particularly given the injuries he sustained during the production of the original Mummy films. These past injuries, including a torn spinal disc and a cracked rib, led to numerous surgeries and contributed to his hiatus from acting. He commented last year on relying on stunt performers ahead of filming.
In addition to Fraser and Weisz, John Hannah is set to reprise his role as Evelyn O'Connell's brother, Jonathan Carnahan. Oded Fehr will also return as Ardeth Bay.
Details surrounding The Mummy 4, including its official title, remain scarce. Fraser expressed to the Associated Press last November his eagerness to return to the franchise, stating he had been waiting two decades for the opportunity and that it was "time to give the fans what they want." The Mummy 4 is scheduled for release on October 15, 2027.
