To commemorate the 20th anniversary of its release, Disney is bringing Christopher Nolan's 2006 film The Prestige back to theaters on January 29, 2027. This re-release marks the first time the suspenseful thriller will be presented in 70mm and IMAX formats, alongside traditional 35mm and Digital 2D presentations.
"I'm very excited to bring 'The Prestige' back to the big screen, and particularly thrilled to offer audiences the chance to see it on 70mm film, and on IMAX for the first time," Nolan stated. The announcement coincides with the 20th anniversary of the film's original debut on October 20, 2006.
The Prestige, starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale as rival magicians locked in a deadly competition, was penned by Christopher and Jonathan Nolan, adapted from Christopher Priest's novel. The film earned two Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.
IGN ranked The Prestige third among Christopher Nolan's best films, with critic Todd Gilchrist awarding it a 9/10 in his original review, calling it "the ultimate movie magic trick."
