The forthcoming third season of Marvel Studios' Daredevil: Born Again will be its last. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Disney Plus series, which recently wrapped filming and is currently in post-production, will conclude its run after its next season, mirroring the three-season structure of its Netflix predecessor.
Showrunner Dario Scardapane and Marvel Studios have reportedly parted ways, with his contract not being renewed. This development leaves the oversight of the remaining post-production unclear.
Daredevil: Born Again has undergone a turbulent development period since its revival. Initially conceived as an 18-episode season, the series was overhauled during the 2023 Hollywood strikes. It was later divided into two separate seasons, and a third season was confirmed approximately a year ago.
The decision to end Born Again aligns with a broader trend of Marvel Studios scaling back its television output on Disney Plus. This follows the earlier cancellation of the second season of Wonder Man, despite its renewal, and precedes upcoming series like VisionQuest in October and the second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in January 2027. The current slate for 2027 includes only the animated Spider-Man series and the third season of Born Again, a significant decrease from the five Disney Plus shows Marvel Studios released in 2021.
Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again concluded with the downfall of Mayor Wilson Fisk, portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio. In his efforts to dismantle Fisk's operations, Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, publicly revealed his Daredevil persona and was subsequently arrested, setting the stage for his likely incarceration at the start of the final season.
Set photos indicate a reunion of the Defenders for the third season. Following a brief return in season 2, Jessica Jones, portrayed by Krysten Ritter, is expected to be joined by Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter). The extent of their roles in the final season remains to be seen.
Despite the conclusion of Daredevil: Born Again, the potential for the characters' return in future MCU projects remains open. Charlie Cox's Daredevil has already appeared in the MCU film Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Jon Bernthal's Punisher, who debuted in the Netflix series and appeared in Born Again, featured prominently in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This suggests that further appearances for these characters are not out of the question.
