DCU's Mister Miracle Series Gets First Look, Casting Confirmed

DC Studios has unveiled the first promotional image for its upcoming animated series adaptation of Tom King's Mister Miracle, confirming Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis as the voices of the titular hero and Big Barda, respectively. The image shows Scott Free, also known as Mister Miracle, in an intimate moment with Big Barda, set against a backdrop hinting at the looming presence of Darkseid.

James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, officially confirmed the casting following remarks by DC Studios co-head Peter Safran. The series is being produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios, with Tom King, the celebrated comic author of the original run, serving as the showrunner. The adaptation will draw from King and Mitch Gerads' 12-issue Mister Miracle comic series, which concluded in 2019. King, who also co-created the upcoming TV series Lanterns, is reportedly writing all eight episodes of the Mister Miracle show.

Peter Safran expressed confidence in King's involvement, noting his experience on Lanterns and his full adaptation of the Mister Miracle comic. Safran indicated that the series is planned for eight 30-minute episodes, with potential for future seasons, and DC Studios is targeting a 2028 premiere.

About Mister Miracle

The Mister Miracle series will focus on Scott Free, a member of the New Gods, an alien species possessing functional immortality. The story centers on his efforts to establish a new life on Earth with Big Barda, a former Female Fury from the planet Apokolips. Under his stage name, Mister Miracle, he gains renown for his spectacular escape artistry, even attracting the attention of the Justice League. The original comic delved into Scott Free's struggle with existential despair, exploring whether true escape, even from death itself, is possible.

Other DC Studios Projects

DC Studios has a slate of upcoming projects. The horror film Clayface is slated for release on October 23. The film Man of Tomorrow, a sequel to Superman, is scheduled for July 9, 2027. Though not part of the main DCU, The Batman Part 2 is anticipated on February 18, 2028. On the television side, The People v. Gorilla Grodd, a mockumentary-style series, is expected in mid-2027. Other projects in development include a Swamp Thing movie and the Batman film The Brave and the Bold, though these lack specific release dates.
