The first three installments of the Die Hard film series are set to receive limited-edition 4K UHD steelbook releases in December. This marks the first time that Die Hard 2 and Die Hard with a Vengeance will be available in the 4K format, while the original 1988 film, Die Hard, has previously had a 4K UHD release.
These new steelbook editions are available for preorder now at $44.99 each, with a release date set for December 1. All three films are also eligible for Movies Anywhere, allowing for digital copies to be accessed across various participating streaming services such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, and Fandango.
Die Hard - Limited-Edition Steelbook
The original Die Hard, directed by John McTiernan, is widely considered one of the greatest action films ever made. The 1988 film stars Bruce Willis as John McClane, an off-duty police detective who becomes embroiled in a terrorist takeover of a high-rise office building during a Christmas party. Its success spawned a sub-genre of "Die Hard on a..." films, and introduced Alan Rickman in a memorable villainous role.
Die Hard 2 - Limited-Edition Steelbook
Released in 1990, the sequel Die Hard 2 sees McClane back in action around Christmas, this time at an airport where terrorists have seized control of the air traffic system. Directed by Renny Harlin, the film revisits many of the narrative beats of its predecessor, with McClane facing skepticism from authorities and complications from law enforcement and the media.
Die Hard with a Vengeance - Limited-Edition Steelbook
The third film, Die Hard with a Vengeance, arrived in 1995 with John McTiernan returning to direct. Starring Bruce Willis alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Irons, the film is set in New York City. Irons's character, Simon, holds the city hostage with a series of bomb threats, forcing McClane to participate in a deadly game of puzzles. The film was the highest-grossing movie of 1995.
Each steelbook edition includes the respective film in 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and digital formats, alongside a selection of special features. These bonus materials vary by film but include commentaries, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, interviews, and visual effects breakdowns.
