Disney+ Updates Subscriber Agreement to Allow Ads on All Plans

Disney+ has updated its subscriber agreement, clarifying that advertisements and promotional content may be integrated across all subscription plans. This change means that even premium subscribers, who pay for an ad-free experience on content playback, may still encounter advertisements in other areas of the service.

The updated terms specify that all service plans can include promotional content, sponsorships, and advertisements that appear before or after content playback, within channels, during live or as-live events, and on third-party service content. This clarification aims to inform subscribers about the potential presence of ads, even on higher-tiered plans.

Disney+ currently offers a basic tier with ads for $12 per month and a premium tier without ads for $19 per month. The revised language suggests that while the premium tier will continue to avoid ad breaks during movies and shows, users may still see promotional displays or ads when navigating the app or during content transitions.

This move follows a trend among major streaming services to introduce or expand advertising as a revenue stream. Disney+ previously increased its prices approximately a year ago, and further price adjustments are possible as the service anticipates upcoming major releases within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including content related to 'Avengers: Endgame Encore' and 'Avengers: Doomsday,' as well as the potential streaming debut of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day.'
