Amazon has announced that its upcoming reality competition series based on the popular Fallout game is officially titled Fallout Shelter: The Experiment. The show will premiere on Prime Video on January 13, 2027. The announcement was made on Fallout Day, a date significant to the franchise as it marks the fictional day the bombs fell in 2077.
A short video accompanying the announcement featured a Pip-Boy displaying the message, "The world is ending. The competition is just beginning." The 10-episode series aims to immerse contestants in a world inspired by the Fallout games' distinctive dark humor, retro-futurism, and post-apocalyptic survival themes.
Contestants will face escalating challenges, strategic dilemmas, and moral choices, all while competing to demonstrate ingenuity, teamwork, and resilience. The ultimate goal is to secure safety, power, and a substantial cash prize. The program description from a previous casting call highlighted that the show would test dwellers' core attributes – Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck (S.P.E.C.I.A.L.) – alongside their loyalty and alliances.
Fallout Shelter: The Experiment is produced by Studio Lambert, known for shows like The Traitors and Squid Game: The Challenge. Todd Howard is attached as an executive producer, alongside Amazon MGM Studios and Bethesda Game Studios.
The release date announcement coincides with other Fallout-related news, including new mods for Fallout 4 and real-world collaborations. Bethesda is reportedly working on various Fallout projects, including potential remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Fallout 5, and a new Obsidian-developed spinoff. Work also continues on Fallout 76 and the Fallout TV series, which is set to receive a third season.
