FX's upcoming anthology TV series Far Cry is expanding its cast with several notable additions. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Brendan Gleeson, both Oscar nominees, have joined the production, alongside Hamish Linklater, Sam Spruell, and Jamie Demetriou. The series is based on Ubisoft's popular first-person shooter video game franchise.
Leigh is known for her roles in "Hateful Eight" and "Fargo," while Gleeson recently appeared in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "The Banshees of Inisherin." Linklater has credits in "Batman: Caped Crusader" and "The Whisper Man," Spruell in "Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," and Demetriou in "Only Murders in the Building."
Noah Hawley, known for "Fargo" and "Alien: Earth," and Rob McElhenney of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" are serving as showrunners. They will join previously announced cast members Lizzy Caplan and Steve Buscemi. As an anthology series, each season of Far Cry will feature a distinct story, setting, and cast. The show is slated to air on FX and Hulu, though a release date has not yet been set.
The Far Cry video game series has been on hiatus since the release of "Far Cry 6" in 2021. Ubisoft's recent ventures into television have been met with positive reception, including the animated "Splinter Cell: Deathwatch."
