The world of Westeros is expanding to the big screen. Warner Bros. and HBO have officially announced that the first feature film in the Game of Thrones franchise, titled Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest, is slated for a spring 2029 release.
Directing the film is Owen Harris, a filmmaker with prior experience in the franchise. Harris previously helmed three episodes of HBO's prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, including "The Hedge Knight," "Hard Salt Beef," and "In the Name of the Mother." The screenplay for Aegon's Conquest is penned by Beau Willimon, known for creating and writing Netflix's House of Cards and contributing to the Star Wars series Andor.
The movie will reportedly center on Aegon I, the foundational ruler who united the Seven Kingdoms and established the Targaryen dynasty. Aegon I, also known as Aegon the Conqueror, wielded three dragons—Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar—in his campaign to forge a unified Westeros.
