Ghost of Tsushima Anime Adaptation Set for 2028 Release, Features Star Wars: Visions Talent

The animated adaptation of Sucker Punch's popular PlayStation title, Ghost of Tsushima, is slated for a 2028 release, Crunchyroll announced, detailing several key members of its creative team. Takanobu Mizuno, known for his work on the Star Wars: Visions short "The Duel," will direct the series. Kamikaze Douga, the studio behind "The Duel" and the Batman: Ninja anime film, will handle animation production.

Gen Urobuchi, celebrated for his work on Psycho-Pass, and Renji Oki of Azur Lane fame are attached to pen the story. The cast includes Mayumi Saco, reprising her role as Tomoe from the original Ghost of Tsushima game, and Shinya Fukumatsu, who previously voiced Bomb in One-Punch Man.

Further contributing to the production are Keiji Inai as music composer, Yoshikazu Iwanami for sound direction, and Gyousyou Suzuki for calligraphy. The series is set to be produced by Hayate Inc.

The Ghost of Tsushima franchise originated with the 2020 PlayStation 4 release, later receiving a PlayStation 5 upgrade. Its sequel, Ghost of Yotei, launched in 2025 and was accompanied by a "Complete Edition" that included the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion and the Legends multiplayer mode.

Video game adaptations continue to be a growing trend in animation, with other notable projects in development, including anime series based on FromSoftware's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Bloodborne, as well as an animated film and series for Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding.
