Glee Reboot Officially Announced by Disney and Hulu

Disney and Hulu have officially announced that a reboot of the musical comedy-drama series Glee is in development. The news, confirmed on October 21, 2026, signals the return of the popular franchise, which originally ran from 2009 to 2015. Creator Ryan Murphy, who has been vocal about his desire to revisit the series, is involved in the project.

Rumors of a potential reboot began circulating in July when Murphy expressed interest in revisiting Glee, citing its continued popularity among younger audiences. By September, he confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that a script for the reboot had been completed. The official announcement came via the show's X account with the statement, "Currently gleeking out."

The reboot is being produced by 20th Television, the same studio behind the original series. While specific details about the reboot's scope remain scarce, Murphy indicated in his conversation with Entertainment Tonight that he has been in contact with approximately ten original cast members. He described their reactions as enthusiastic and noted they had many questions, suggesting the new series might not be a complete reset but could involve familiar faces.

Murphy will be joined by original co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who also contributed to the reboot's script. The revival is anticipated to fill a void for fans of musical television programming, a niche that has seen less content since the conclusion of shows like Schmigadoon! The original Glee cast included notable actors such as Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, Naya Rivera, Dianna Agron, Jane Lynch, Darren Criss, Matthew Morrison, and Heather Morris. Tragically, several original cast members have passed away since the series ended.
