Greta Gerwig's Narnia Film Gets First Poster, Trailer Imminent

Director Greta Gerwig's adaptation of C.S. Lewis's 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew' has revealed its first poster, with the debut trailer set to arrive soon. The film is slated for release in 2027.

The Netflix film, previously anticipated for a 2026 release, has been rescheduled. 'Narnia: The Magician's Nephew' will premiere in IMAX and globally in theaters on February 12, 2027, followed by a streaming release on Netflix on April 2, 2027. Limited IMAX showings will commence on February 10, 2027.

Recent glimpses from the production have featured Aslan, the talking lion voiced by Meryl Streep, and Daniel Craig as the magician Andrew Ketterley. This film marks the first live-action adaptation of Lewis's 1955 prequel novel, which details the creation of Narnia by Aslan.

The Magician's Nephew's Place in the Chronicles

'The Magician's Nephew' is the sixth book published in 'The Chronicles of Narnia' series and serves as a prequel, set 1,000 years before 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.' The novel chronicles the origins of Narnia and its creation through Aslan's song.

Gerwig has expressed her deep connection to the source material, stating, "I was a child when I first read The Magician’s Nephew, and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life." She added that the idea of a universe built out of music has always stayed with her and that C.S. Lewis's work instilled a belief in magic, hidden worlds, and adventure.

The Magician's Nephew - C. S. Lewis (1955)

While 'The Magician's Nephew' is receiving its first live-action cinematic treatment, other Narnia books have seen various adaptations, including television series, animated films, and previous live-action productions of 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,' 'Prince Caspian,' and 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.' 'The Magician's Nephew' itself has previously been adapted for stage, radio, and manga. Netflix acquired the rights to C.S. Lewis's works in 2018.

The cast for 'Narnia: The Magician's Nephew' includes Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep, alongside newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell. Gerwig is both directing and writing the screenplay for the film.
