Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, and Josh O’Connor Emerge as Top Contenders for Next James Bond

The search for the next James Bond has reportedly narrowed to three actors: Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, and Josh O’Connor. According to a report from Deadline, these actors are currently undergoing final auditions for the coveted role.

Lowden, a Scottish actor, is recognized for his roles in the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses and for his marriage to actress Saoirse Ronan. Turner, a British actor, previously starred in the film One Night Only. O’Connor, also British, gained recognition for his portrayal of Father Jud Duplenticy in A Knives Out Mystery: Wake Up Dead Man and for his role as Prince Charles in The Crown.

Initial reactions from some within Kotaku's editorial staff suggest a degree of unenthusiasm regarding the reported shortlist. Ethan Gach noted that while he likes Jack Lowden, he is not particularly enthusiastic about the current candidates. Zack Zweizen suggested that Amazon MGM Studios may have overlooked a potentially ideal candidate. Lewis Parker expressed a preference for Josh O’Connor but admitted that his overall enthusiasm is limited.

Some commentary also touched upon the perceived lack of diversity in the casting process, with John Walker suggesting actor Rahul Kohli as a potential candidate. The discussion among staff highlighted a desire for a more diverse casting choice, with one editor expressing a wish to see a non-white actor in the role, referencing a perceived industry trend that may favor traditional casting choices.
