Jennifer Lawrence is attached to star in director Zach Cregger's upcoming science fiction thriller, titled The Flood. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are set to distribute the film, with a theatrical release planned for August 11, 2028. Cregger is writing, producing, and directing the project, with Amblin Entertainment and Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Miri Yoon also producing.
While specific plot details and additional cast members remain under wraps, Cregger has drawn comparisons between The Flood and Stanley Kubrick's iconic film, 2001: A Space Odyssey. He described the movie as having a similar "bizarreness" and exploring "big questions" about human nature and artificial intelligence, noting that it can be viewed as a "thrilling horror movie about human nature." However, Cregger clarified that The Flood is not strictly a horror film, despite containing horror elements. He noted its "disturbing" nature and that it "unfolds in a very unique way."
This project follows Cregger's recent success with his Resident Evil adaptation, which garnered positive reviews and became the most successful film in the franchise's history. The movie also reportedly contributed to a more than 50% increase in sales for the Resident Evil 2 Remake on PlayStation 5.
