Joe Bennett, co-creator of the animated series Scavengers Reign and Common Side Effects, is returning to Netflix with a new workplace comedy titled Dealies. Expected to premiere in 2027, the series will explore the eccentric employees of a big-box store and the antique shop located across the street.
In a recent interview, Bennett described Dealies as drawing heavily from his earlier, more comedy-focused short works. The show will be an episodic comedy following a cast of characters working together within a large retail environment. Steve Hely, a collaborator on Common Side Effects who is not involved with Dealies, characterized the new series as character-driven and grounded in the peculiar aspects of everyday life. Hely noted that the show captures an "offbeat kind of character" within a real-world setting.
Netflix announced Dealies earlier this year, detailing it as an adult animated series from Bennett and writer Ted Travelstead, who are both serving as showrunners, writers, and executive producers. The series hails from Green Street Pictures, a studio co-founded by Bennett. The official description hints at a staff of unusual employees, including a "savant salesman," a "gentle gladiator," and a "summoner of the divine," all working alongside the person who hired them. These characters are portrayed as adept at commerce, occasionally finding time to perform their actual duties.
Bennett’s previous work includes the surreal science fiction series Scavengers Reign, which followed survivors on an alien planet, and Common Side Effects, an Adult Swim conspiracy comedy centered on a potent mushroom. Both projects highlight Bennett’s affinity for strange worlds and unconventional characters, with Dealies appearing to adapt this sensibility to a more familiar setting.
