The '90s cartoon Darkwing Duck is inching closer to a revival on Disney+, with Mark Hamill and Seth Rogen officially joining the cast alongside Lizzy Caplan and Lilimar. Rumored to be in development since 2020, the reboot has now been greenlit, though a release window remains unannounced.
Mark Hamill, known for his role as Luke Skywalker, will voice the titular Darkwing Duck. Seth Rogen, who recently voiced Donkey Kong in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, will take on the role of sidekick Launchpad McQuack. Lizzy Caplan is set to voice Darkwing's adoptive daughter, Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar will voice Duckie.
The official synopsis describes a darker take on the character: "For the last 35 years, Darkwing Duck has been trapped in his worst nightmare: an alternate world that’s never heard of his superhero exploits. Now a rebellious teen named Duckie who knows all about his heroic past shows up to pull this ego-fueled vigilante back into battle. Together, this unlikely duo will get dangerous to fight old enemies like Negaduck and Megavolt and reunite with allies Launchpad, Gosalyn and Morgana to save the entire universe."
Darkwing Duck, a spoof of Batman in the vein of DuckTales, originally aired in the 1990s. The series is remembered for its theme song and its unique blend of superhero action and parody. It remains to be seen how Hamill will interpret the role, whether as an homage to the original voice actor Jim Cummings or with a fresh approach.
