Mooncat has unveiled a new nail polish collection inspired by the popular manga and anime series, Death Note. This collaboration marks the first time the dark fantasy franchise has partnered with a beauty brand. The collection, which is now live, includes nine different polishes, each designed to evoke specific characters or moments from the series. The nail lacquers feature a variety of finishes, including shimmer, matte, glitter, thermal, metallic, and magnetic, in a range of moody colors.
Collection Details
The individual polishes and their descriptions are as follows:
- Sunset Over Tokyo: A deep blue lacquer with yellow shimmer.
- God of the New World: A thermal lacquer that shifts from burgundy red when cold to charcoal black when warm, inspired by the duality of the series' main character, Light.
- Sugarfuel Brain Calories: A semi-sheer polish packed with blue shimmer, candy-colored flakies, star-shaped flitter, holographic glitter, and reflective glitter, a nod to character L's sweet tooth.
- Mourning Rain: A matte grey lacquer filled with green shimmer.
- Misa Misa: A purple-pink magnetic lacquer with a black base that is revealed when magnetized.
- Rem's Requiem: A light pink-to-lavender multichrome magnetic lacquer that reveals a charcoal base with silver metallic flakies and reflective glitter when magnetized.
- Ryuk Was Bored: An icy silver-blue magnetic lacquer with a navy blue base and reflective glitter when magnetized.
- Gods of Death Love Apples: A matte lacquer with red shimmer.
- Shinigami Realm: A thermal lacquer that transitions from slate grey when cold to silver when warm, featuring icy shimmer.
Each polish is priced between $17 and $18. Mooncat is also offering a magnetic wand for free with any purchase, which aids in applying magnetic polishes and creating cat-eye effects.
Collector's Edition
For those looking to acquire the entire collection, a limited-edition collector's box set is available. This set is housed in a matte black container designed to resemble the Death Note itself and retails for $139. Purchasing the box set offers a discount compared to buying each polish individually and includes an exclusive sticker set and the magnetic wand.
Mooncat founder Michelle Lin described the collection as "a love letter to a story whose artistic legacy has left an indelible mark on her creative vision." The brand, which launched in 2021, has previously collaborated with other major franchises, including Star Wars and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
