A new series set in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender is in development, focusing on the Water Tribe Avatar, Kuruk. Titled "Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos," the show will be set three generations before Avatar Aang and is helmed by Avatar co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, with Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios producing.
Variety reports that the series' logline describes a "rebellious teenage Avatar" who "bucks thousands of years of tradition" by learning the elements through globetrotting adventures while evading his teacher, pirates, and spirits. Paramount shared first-look images at New York Comic-Con depicting Kuruk waterbending, a view of the Northern Water Tribe Capital, and his animal companion, Nikik.
Konietzko stated at NYCC that the series will be the franchise's first action-comedy. A "script to screen" clip demonstrating the animation production process was also shown and is available on YouTube.
This announcement coincides with "Avatar: Seven Havens" being renewed for seasons three and four, bringing its total to four seasons. The first three episodes of "Seven Havens" season one premiered on October 9 on Paramount+, with new episodes releasing weekly on Fridays through October 30. Season two currently lacks an official release date.
IGN's review of the first three episodes of "Seven Havens" Book 1 awarded it nine out of ten, praising its emotional depth, animation, and score, and noting its relevance to the current world despite its post-apocalyptic setting.
