Prime Video's hit television adaptation of Fallout is expanding with a new reality competition series titled Fallout Shelter: The Experiment. The show is slated for release on January 13, 2027. This new venture aims to capitalize on the success of the first season, which garnered significant viewership and critical acclaim, including multiple Emmy nominations.
Fallout Shelter: The Experiment is described as an immersive, high-stakes competition set within Vault-Tec's bomb-proof vaults. Contestants will face a series of escalating challenges, strategic dilemmas, and moral quandaries designed to test their ingenuity, teamwork, and resilience. The series draws inspiration from the 2015 game Fallout Shelter and will incorporate the games' signature dark humor, retro-futurism, and post-apocalyptic survival themes. Participants will compete for safety, power, and a substantial cash prize.
According to a casting call, the show will test the seven core attributes from the Fallout universe: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck (S.P.E.C.I.A.L.). Beyond these attributes, contestants' loyalty and alliances will also be examined, highlighting power dynamics, popularity, and social strategy.
This reality series is produced by Bethesda Game Studios, Kilter Films, and Studio Lambert, the latter known for The Traitors and Squid Game: The Challenge. While the premise offers a departure from the serialized drama of the main Fallout series, it promises to bring the distinctive tone of the franchise to a new format. The show is expected to run for 10 episodes.
In addition to the reality spin-off, the main Fallout TV series has been renewed for a third season. Filming for season 3 began in July 2026, with a release expected sometime in 2027. Season 2 of the scripted series aired from December 2025 to January 2026.
