Set photos have surfaced revealing Rachel Weisz reprising her role as Evelyn O'Connell in the upcoming The Mummy film. The images, captured outside the British Museum in London, show Weisz in costume as the librarian, Egyptologist, and adventurer.
This marks Weisz's return to the franchise after a 16-year absence. She did not appear in the 2008 film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, where Maria Bello portrayed Evelyn. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have indicated that Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is not considered canon for the new film.
Brendan Fraser, who plays Rick O'Connell, is also set to return. Fraser has previously spoken about the physical toll the Mummy films took on him, including multiple injuries and surgeries. John Hannah will reprise his role as Evelyn's brother, Jonathan Carnahan, and Oded Fehr returns as Ardeth Bay.
The set photos suggest the new film is set in the 1950s, a departure from the franchise's previous installments which were set in 1926, 1933, and 1946 respectively. One photo shows Weisz holding what appears to be a transistor radio, a technology that became popular in the mid-to-late 1950s. The specific title for the fourth film has not yet been announced.
Fraser expressed his eagerness for the project in November, telling the Associated Press that he had been waiting two decades for the opportunity to make another Mummy film, stating, "It’s time to give the fans what they want." The Mummy 4 is slated for release on October 15, 2027.
