Netflix has unveiled the debut trailer for Ray Gunn, the upcoming animated film from director Brad Bird, known for his work on The Incredibles and Ratatouille. This marks Bird's first directorial feature since 2018's Incredibles 2.
Ray Gunn is scheduled for a limited theatrical release beginning December 4, followed by its streaming debut on Netflix on December 18. The trailer announcement was made via Netflix's official Twitter account.
The official synopsis describes the film as an investigation within Metropia, a sprawling city in an alternate future envisioned from the perspective of 1939. The narrative centers on private eye Raymond Gunn, voiced by Sam Rockwell, who becomes entangled in a case involving aliens, murder, and a prominent multimedia star named Venus Nova, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson. The cast also includes Tom Waits.
Director Brad Bird commented on the film's long development, stating, "Ray Gunn has been in my mind for over 30 years." He described the movie as a fusion of science fiction and classic 1940s detective films, likening it to a blend of "Maltese Falcon meets Buck Rogers." Bird expressed enthusiasm for combining these genres and exploring cinematic elements and distinct characters.
