Robert Pattinson, who portrays the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves' Batman universe, has stated that the upcoming film, The Batman Part 2, will offer a novel exploration of Bruce Wayne and Batman's psychology. Pattinson indicated in a recent interview that the sequel's script presents an understanding of the character's mind that he believes has not yet been depicted in the character's extensive history across various media.
Filming for The Batman Part 2 is reportedly back on track, with an early 2028 release date anticipated. Pattinson described the new script as "amazing" and "completely different world," emphasizing its unique approach to the character's psyche. He acknowledged the vast library of Batman stories, noting that despite the sheer volume of interpretations, the sequel aims for an "unusual" and "enormous" exploration of the character.
This follows Pattinson's own distinctive portrayal in the 2022 film, The Batman, which presented a more grounded and emotionally raw version of Bruce Wayne grappling with vengeance. The sequel's narrative will continue this exploration, examining how the nearly century-old character will be interpreted next.
Pattinson also reflected on his initial decision to join the superhero genre, citing Batman as "universally acknowledged" as the coolest superhero. He expressed his deep connection to the character and the film's atmosphere, stating his desire to continue portraying Batman for as long as possible.
The production has navigated some behind-the-scenes adjustments, including director Steven Soderbergh stepping in to assist Reeves. Pattinson has referred to Soderbergh's involvement as "completely selfless."
