Josh Cooley, the acclaimed director of the Oscar-winning "Toy Story 4" and a nominee for "Inside Out," has been hired by 20th Century Studios to write the screenplay for a film adaptation of the Roblox survival-horror game "99 Nights in the Forest." Cooley also directed "Transformers One." The film rights for "99 Nights in the Forest" were acquired by 20th Century Studios, a division of Disney, earlier this year after a competitive bidding process.
"99 Nights in the Forest" is developed by Grandma's Favourite Games and is a popular survival game on the Roblox platform, attracting nearly 150,000 concurrent players. In the game, players must survive for 99 nights in a haunted forest, battling monsters and rescuing missing children. The game's developers, Alec Kieft, Matthew Hufton, and Cameron Angland, are set to serve as executive producers for the movie.
This project marks 20th Century Studios' continued involvement in video game adaptations, having previously produced films based on "Hitman" and "Assassin's Creed." "99 Nights in the Forest" is also not the first Roblox game to secure a Hollywood development deal, with "Grow a Garden" and "Steal a Brainrot" also having previously landed similar opportunities.
