Chris Pratt has confirmed that Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, is slated to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor revealed that active planning and conversations are taking place to ensure the character's comeback.
"I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D’Esposito], and there have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise,” Pratt told The Playlist. “So yeah, you’ll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting, but I’m not at liberty to say when that’s going to be, but he’s not going anywhere.”
Star-Lord's future in the MCU was left open-ended after his last appearance in 2023, with a post-credits scene explicitly stating his return. While Pratt is not currently listed among the confirmed cast for the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday," it is possible he could appear in its sequel, "Avengers: Secret Wars," or in an entirely separate project. Director James Gunn has indicated he has no immediate plans for another "Guardians of the Galaxy" film, given his new role heading DC Studios. However, the door remains open for Star-Lord to appear in other capacities, such as a solo film, a television series, or potentially with a new team in a "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4" under different direction.
