The erotic thriller The Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, will make its streaming debut on HBO Max on October 9, 2026. The film, released in December 2025, was a commercial success, earning $400 million against a $35 million budget.
Directed by Paul Feig and written by Rebecca Sonnenshine, the movie is an adaptation of Freida McFadden's 2022 novel of the same name. It follows Millie Calloway (Sweeney), who takes a job as a live-in housekeeper to meet her parole requirements. She works in a Long Island mansion for Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), his pregnant wife Nina (Seyfried), and their daughter Cece (Indiana Elle). As Millie and Nina spend more time together, tensions escalate, with Nina growing suspicious of Millie's interactions with her husband, and Millie becoming wary of Nina's volatile behavior.
Following the success of the first film, Lionsgate announced in January that adaptations of McFadden's sequels, The Housemaid's Secret and The Housemaid Is Watching, are also in development. Paul Feig, Rebecca Sonnenshine, and Sydney Sweeney are expected to return for The Housemaid's Secret. The upcoming streaming release on HBO Max provides an opportunity for viewers to catch up on the first installment before Millie's next chapter unfolds, where she assists a woman dealing with an abusive husband.
