Sydney Sweeney is attached to star in a new film adaptation of the Sleepy Hollow story, a project acquired by Sony Pictures. The film, titled 'Hollow,' will be a reimagining of Washington Irving's classic tale, drawing inspiration from Lindsey Anderson Beer's forthcoming novel of the same name.
Lindsey Anderson Beer is set to write, direct, and produce the project. This marks Beer's second directorial effort, following 'Pet Sematary: Bloodlines,' and her first time adapting her own work, as 'Hollow' is based on her debut novel, slated for publication in Fall 2027.
Sweeney's independent production company, Honey Trap, will co-produce 'Hollow' alongside Margot Robbie's LuckyChap. This acquisition by Sony was described as competitive, and 'Hollow' will be Honey Trap's first film production.
Beer's adaptation is notable for centering the narrative on Katrina Van Tassel, a character often depicted as the love interest of Ichabod Crane and a key figure in Irving's 1820 short story. In this reimagining, Van Tassel moves away from her traditional role as a prize to be won between Ichabod and Brom Bones, placing her at the forefront of the story.
Sony is currently holding an open casting call for the roles of Ichabod Crane and Brom Bones. This casting news follows recent developments for Sweeney, including the confirmation of a sequel to her film 'The Housemaid.'
